Grant Award Policies - Grantee organizations must be self-supporting, and grants will not be awarded to cover routine operating expenses. Rather, the purpose of the grants is to provide for special one-time projects not otherwise affordable by the organizations. Such projects may include, for example, the purchase of real property and equipment, special repairs or improvements to property, or funding of start-up costs of a new activity. Other innovative programs will be welcome.
- The need for the grant must be made clear, and the proposed expenditures must be described in detail. An applicant must state what course of action it will take if the grant is not approved.
- Grants will not be awarded to religious organizations except for non-religious purposes benefiting the general public.
- The grantee must demonstrate that it has a responsible, active volunteer Board of Directors that reasonably represents the area served. The Board must have primary authority for the organization's policy and fiscal control.
- There must be a specified period of time during which the grant funds will be expended. Funds not spent during such period must be returned, although an application to extend the period for cause will be considered. Upon the completion of the project, the grantee must furnish a report detailing actual expenditures and the results achieved.
- Matching grants are encouraged. Either to provide matching funds for projects already initiated by others, or for projects requiring matching funds from others.
- Applications for grants that are not approved for lack of funds may be re-submitted.
