A Day in Salem
Featuring the Peabody Essex Museum
September 26, 2024
Salem, Massachusetts is known as the “Witch City,” but did you know that it’s also home to one of the largest and most important museums in the United States? Join PRIME TIME™ on Thursday, September 26th as we visit the Peabody Essex Museum (PEM) in Salem.
Established in 1799 by Salem sea captains, the PEM features a diverse collection of art and culture from around the world, including an old Chinese home. Yin Yu Tang, a 200-year-old Chinese house, was relocated to the Peabody Essex Museum from southeastern China in 2003. A guided tour affords ample time to explore the stately 16-bedroom home that offers a glimpse into the daily life of the Huang family, in addition to other items in the PEM collection.
Following our museum visit, we’ll enjoy lunch at the iconic Hawthorne Hotel, one of Salem’s most noted landmarks that is also listed in the National Register of Historical Buildings. Served buffet-style, lunch includes salad with assorted dressings, marinated steak tips with roasted peppers and onions, rice pilaf and deconstructed strawberry shortcake for dessert. After dessert, there will be time to explore this seaside town on your own.
From the haunting tales of the witch trials to the enchanting atmosphere of its waterfront, you can’t help but feel spellbound with this Massachusetts town’s bewitching charm!
