Bristol County Savings Bank Announces John Silva Expands Role To Include Chief Executive Officer Responsibilities
TAUNTON, MA, January 6, 2025 — Bristol County Savings Bank (BCSB) announces that John Silva has assumed the role of Chief Executive Officer in addition to his responsibilities as President of the Bank. Silva’s expanded role as President & Chief Executive Officer coincides with the retirement of former CEO Patrick J. Murray after 38-years at the Bank, concluding the succession plan that was adopted by the Bank’s Board of Directors close to two years ago. Murray, who had stepped down as President in May of this year, will continue to serve as Chairman of the Board of Directors.
“John has done an outstanding job leading the Bank as our President and Chief Banking Officer,” said Murray. “He is well prepared to take on the CEO role while continuing to share his vision for how best to serve our customers and communities.” Murray added that Silva will also assume his former position as President of the Bristol County Savings Charitable Foundation.
Prior to being named President and Chief Banking Officer in May 2024, Silva held the positions of Executive Vice President and Chief Lending Officer, Executive Vice President/Commercial Lending and Senior Vice President/Commercial Lending at the Bank. Silva joined the Bank in 2016 and brought with him a wealth of knowledge and experience having previously served in a number of capacities at Santander and its predecessor banks for more than 25 years, including Senior Vice President, New England Regional Director in its Business Banking department.

Silva is active in the community as a Board Member for the YMCA of Pawtucket where he also serves on the Executive and Finance Committees. In addition, he is a Board Member for the Rhode Island Bankers Association and the South Eastern Economic Development Corporation (SEED), as well as a trustee of RIPEC. He earned his MBA at the University of Rhode Island and his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Roger Williams University in Bristol, Rhode Island. Silva resides in Bristol, RI with his wife.
